Found it easier to simply open the README.TXT file at the end of the
procedure. And I'll make it all self-executing. Right now, time is becoming
of the essence, if you'll pardon the pun. Should go live tomorrow AM. If
anyone wants to help, I've already noted that I welcome any assistance. But
I'll start a new thread, and broadcast it wider when I've finished the
updating. I'll have time and a machine available on Thurs. afternoon and/or
Fri. AM for that purpose (newsgroup advertising.)

OK. Cquirke or Blanton would be great for the .bat. Also, someone else
has been posting little DOS gems-- maybe it was Zabcar or Lipman or
Ingeborg, even. I do trust you do have the right values for the time
zones, as you said you exported them from an XP machine that did get
them from the actual, finalized MS patch. OK, then.

After running it on an incredibly challenged VPC, approximating the behavior
of Win98SE on a P133 with 32MB RAM (parent machine is running XP Home w/ 256
MB RAM), I decided 1000 is too much. Made it 100 instead, g. Hey, I used
up thirty just testing the BAT file.

Actually, I've *done* all that, and deleted a lot of crap that is only
useful to XP machines. Plus adding several MapID's where MS couldn't be
bothered. Gotta wonder which mop-wielding janitor they saddled this project
with. I mean that quite literally, not in any way figuratively!

Ah! Good! I hope that's their last update, though. So...

You will run this update on an XP machine, & then export the Registry
key? That's how you do it, maybe reverting some of the Registry values
too (such as "Eastern Standard Time" back to just "Eastern"? I guess
that does it, then. Very good.

Glad you caught that bit of sarcasm/spoof, best to stay at a reasonable
level for the general limits that might be involved on the type of computer
running 98 as the actual OS, if the intent is a generally applicable patch.

Won't be up until later today, earliest. Have to update the web page and
also test the NT version. VPC I have available is slower than snail snot.
Started installing Win2K at 5:30 and it's still working on it, 5 hours

Yes, at least ten totally new zones. For example, Mexico didn't change their
laws, so they're on the old DST schedule instead of synched with ours. Thus,
they need their own zones. And some place in central Asia has segregated
itself from Russia and its TZ schedule. Things like that.

Those are the ones missing MapID values. Plus a bunch if info that is
useful only to WinXP/2K3 "Dynamic Updates" (accounting for future changes).

If you want to see the new ones, use the MGDX update on a fresh Registry and
look for the ones that have "Standard Time" added to the names and missing
MapID value.

Very well. If you SWEAR it won't create 1000 backups, I may try it
myself tomorrow night. But, really, I have other things I'm neglecting
to do, such as choosing between Avira & Avast for a McAfee replacement.
I'm tired of manually downloading def files now that McAfee won't
auto-do it-- & it may not be strictly legal to take them from an Intel
FTP site anyhow!
