Default Adobe Reader?

I understand that the new version 7 will no longer work on anything other
than 2000 and XP. Sigh...

Not true. The reader will work on all windows platforms, but the
'composer' is only available for 2000 and XP.

Sorry but you're mistaken. Here is the system requirements as posted by
Adobe:

Adobe Reader 7.0 system requirements

Windows

Intel® Pentium® processor

Microsoft® Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional or Home
Edition, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

128MB of RAM Up to 90MB of available hard-disk space

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher

Here is the url:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acroba...eqs.html#70win

I even tried to install it on my Win98SE box and the installer failed
stating I didn't meet the system requirements. I can't recall the specific
message.

Sounds like more bloatware! Acrobat version 6 works great for me.

I suppose someday the new .pdf files will require version 7 or higher. Oh
joy..

*I* predict that by this time next year, no Windows 9x system will be safe
and/or useful for internet browsing, and no new major label software will run on
it. That means Windows 95, 98, 98SE or ME.

I'm gonna keep using mine, I tell ya!!! But I'm pretty judicious
(selective) about "where I go" (url-wise), admitedly. :-)

As for the "new MAJOR label" stuff, I'll probably be able to make do with
what I've got just fine.

Now, as for 5 or 10 years from now......hmmm, I might be bored with this
system (meaning not be able to find ANY new software to play with that will
still run on it)

I hope! (I'm really QUITE content with what I've got, and "don't need no
mah bells and whistles, and BLOATWARE - ya hear??? :-)

Nope, I've succumbed to DVD. I think I already told ya I've been
converting some home VHS tapes over to DVD, and that was a bit of a fun
learning experience (getting used to the software, etc).

And get this - A couple of years ago, I was one of the first to ask detailed
questions about the mp3 playing capabilities of the store's standalone DVD
players before I finally bought one. Most of the sales people didn't know
the answers to the questions I had, and said few people even cared about
such things as mp3 compatability. LOL. See? Ahead of the times!

I've put a LOT of my music on mp3. Wav files (eg: std CD audio) are a
COMPLETE WASTE OF SPACE!!! I've got one CD over here that I made that has
200 songs on it!! (mp3 format) I stick that guy in, and it can go for
11 hours!

And I'm using Adobe Acrobat 6, unlike many (most?) in here, I bet (I think
most are still using 5.x, but I could be wrong).

As a serious aside to this, what will people do when they can no longer
buy VHS players/recorders? How many VHS tapes are in this world that
people want to view and don't want to pay to have them converted to DVD?
I guess I see some serious problems not to far in the future.
