Default Need Help Formatting NTFS

I recently purchased a new hard drive for my desk top.
When I formatted it, it showed only 2 gigs of memory even
though the hard drive has over 100. I was told that it
was because it's formatted with FAT and that I need to
format it as NTFS. I can't seem to find instructions on
how to do that. Can someone help me out please? Thanks
in advance.

Windows 98 cannot understand NTFS, so the advice you received was not
correct. The problem is probably that when it was partitioned you didn't
answer Y to the question about large hard drive support. In this case the
partition is created as FAT16, which is limited to a maximum partition size
of 2Gb. FAT32 partitions can be much larger. Windows 98 has a partition
conversion utility that can change FAT16 to FAT32, but it won't change the
partition size.

Options include:
Start over, delete the existing partitions and re-partition as FAT32. Note
that you probably won't want the whole 100+Gb as one partition, as this can
be inefficient for FAT32. This option requires a complete re-installation
of Windows, applications etc.

Get a third party repartitioning utility such as Partition Magic
(Powerquest) or BootitNG. These utilities can convert partitions between
different types, change the size of partitions and create new partitions.

Keep the existing 2Gb partition and create an extended partition in the
unused space. Create one or more (my preference would be for at least two)
logical drives in the extended partition. This option is simplest, but you
may find a 2Gb primary partition is inadequate without taking special care
to keep extra stuff (such as temporary files and all installed applications)
out of the C drive (although this is probably good practice anyway).
