install wireless adapter
I am trying to install a wireless network adapter in my windows 98 computer.
It appears that some files are needed from the windows 98 cd. My computer came with windows installed and no cd. It did come with a restore cd but that appearently does not have the required files on it. Is there any way to install the adapter without the cd |

Some machines have the necessary files tucked away on the hard disk. Try
looking for a folder like C:\I386 or C:\Windows98 or whatever. Otherwise you'll probably need to buy a CD on EBay, or borrow one. If I remember correctly you'll need a series of CAB files with names beginning "net..." and I think you may need nos 7 to 10. If you do a "Find..." for *.cab you may get lucky. -- PH, London =========== "Pete" wrote in message ... I am trying to install a wireless network adapter in my windows 98 computer. If you are lucky, the CD .cab files were copied to your hard drive. The likely location is... C:\Windows\Options\CABS.
"START button, Find, F/F, Win98*.cab" (That's asterisk-dot-cab.) If 55 of them show up, the folder that contains them is a copy of the Installation CD. Likely, Windows will know this already. Otherwise, when a CD is requested, direct the requestor to that folder. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "Pete" wrote in message ... | I am trying to install a wireless network adapter in my windows 98 computer. | It appears that some files are needed from the windows 98 cd. Very often, the message you are seeing is incorrect and the required files
are actually on the installation disk supplied with the new hardware. Try telling the installation procedure to look on that disk (or in that folder, depending on where you are installing from) -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Pete" wrote in message ...
