Default turns on then shuts down

whenever i turn on my system,it runs like it should till
the fullscreen Windows 98 loading pic comes on.its starts
to load on that screen like usual, but for only about 2
seconds. then the scree comes on that says "it is now
safe to turn off your computer." Safe mode, step-by-step
config.,and MS-DOS mode won't work; same thing
happens,minus Win 98 loadingpic.Closed system,no virus
protection, very slight chance of virus due to
transfered document from floppy.

Well, I suggest you buy a Win98SE CD online (it is still available many places),
format, and do a fresh install of Windows for yourself.

Sounds like a second stage Hard Drive issue where Windows loads the
windows hard disk driver and the drive causes a hardware signal and
shutdown is initiated.

It's an issuwe when a hard drive starts to go bad. Maxtor is famous
for it. The funny part is you can still use this drive on a Windows 95
or Linux suystem for a while (sometimes months) before it fully dies.
