So, i have an Ethernet card now, but still no internet...
My routers wont work via USB due to not having a new enough OS, so i bought an Ethernet card and just stuck it in place - How do i now get the internet to go through the Ethernet card rather than just wanting dial up info? I've tried to add a network to see if that works, but nope, tried to get the dial up to go through LAN instead - nope - and i cant check settings from the laptop as that has wireless connection, so none of the setting would be the same anyway!
All i want to do is get the old PC connected to broadband! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i have another post regarding the routers, i cant get them to connect to PC due to software problems) |

Go to StartRun box, type in WINIPCFG and then press Enter. Click Release
All, then click Renew All. What settings are shown now? -- Gary S. Sorry to say that I need to go out for a few hours. I promise to continue
with your case when I get back later this evening. Who is your ISP? What is the nature of the network you're connecting to? Is it a large LAN or WAN like at some school? Or is this a home broadband connection? -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User http://grystmill.com/articles/cleanboot.htm http://grystmill.com/articles/security.htm "Luke.Davis" wrote in message ... Sorry, neve rmind. I took the time to read your other posts again. (My
memory sucks big time these days.) Your router isn't providing the gateway address. Are you sure it's configured properly? Is any other computer successfully using that router (I assume it's the 2091?) You say there are two routers in the house? Are both being used? Please describe the entire network, starting at the broadband modem. What's connected to that? The 2091 or the 220v? What is connected to whichever router that is connected to the broadband modem. Is this DSL (telephone) or cable (TV) broadband? Is one of the routers uplinked to the other one, or is only one going to be used for everyone? -- Gary S. Well, The 2091 is currently being used full time for the laptop, and i was going to use the 220v upstairs. But im now assuming 1 line = 1 router........?
Its just a simple home broadband, with 2 computers needing to use it. The set up so far is: BT linebox & Microfilter with the DSL cable to the Router, then Laptop connected wireless to the router. I'l try with the 2091 router upstairs and see if anything different happens, as its wireless it wont matter where its plugged in! Cheers for your time Gary! Im sure you have better things to be doing than this!!!! lol But your help is very much appreciated! Quote:
