Hey Shane,
I'm aware of Sunbelt acquiring Kerio but didn't think to check if the link was live.
No longer freeware, though, I bet the commercial version is better.

Hm. May try it again one day. Anyway, I didn't realise until just now the
guy writing the blog - and providing 2.1.5 for those who still want it - is
the Sunbelt President himself! Hard to imagine a *much* better
recommendation.

Hi Silj & Shane,
Kerio Personal Firewall (from Sunbelt) is still free for personal use.

You download it and after 30 days some advanced features stop working. See
the table near the bottom of http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm
you're still left with a (IMO) user friendly firewall that monitors traffic
in and outbound.

Hi Don,
I've only ever run the early build of the 4.x builds of Sunbelt/Kerio before the
Sunbelt
purchase - for those that are after v 2.1.5
(http://www.dslreports.com/r0/downloa...1.5-en-win.zip)

But Silj,

I know there's a certain confidence to be had from d'loading it from
dslreports.com, but have you looked at that link?
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ihs/alex/keriopf215.zip The president of the
company that currently owns Kerio PF provides 2.1.5 for those who want it.

Thanks Don,

No, I haven't run it either, since Sunbelt acquired it. I think two
Kerio-owned versions back there were problems, and the last one caused WMI
to run in 9x which caused slowdowns (as did the contemporary Sygate version,
basically I think because both are really only being written for NT systems
now - and if Symantec are anything to go by, high-RAM NT systems! - even if
they do still install and run on 9x).

I didn't realize the Sunbelt version was still free after 30 days, so thanks
for that. To date I've found the paid-for parts in any free-for-personal-use
security software completely superfluous anyway!

But, as long as 2.1.5 continues to be effective I'll stick with it and I see
Alex Eckelberry, Sunbelt's president, has no qualms about it's continued
use - presumably as opposed to use of the latest version in 'free mode', as
I'm sure he'd rather people buy from him, if pushed, and he'd mention if
2.1.5 had known security issues!

Sorry I missed your reply, Shane -
Yes I would sooner trust a URL from Sunbelt than a rather dubious URL from
elsewhere.

Cheers,
Silj
