Default HPFTBX12 caused a general protection fault error

I have an HP 882c printer and recently began experiencing
the following error when trying to print:

HPFTBX12 caused a general protection fault
in module HPFTBX12.EXE at 001f:00000939.
Registers:

Recent changes to my set-up include installing MS's .NET
Framework and Cookie Crusher v. 3.2, Build: 6 / Revision:
17, which requires the .NET Framework.

A close/ignore dialog box appears and hitting ignore
allows me to continue printing, however I eventually
noticed that I was not able to access any of the toolbox
services (such as align print cartridges, print test page,
etc.).

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, as well
as adding a generic printer driver without success. I went
to HP's site but they didn't have any information
specifically related to this error, just some general
suggestions if you were getting general protection fault
errors.

I am running under the Windows 98 OS.

I was able to solve the problem.

Apparently it was the result of installing a program from Citi Cards,
that generates temporary credit card numbers for use on the internet.
One of the suggestions at the HP site, was to edit Windows settings to
disable the programs that "Load at startup" settings. I cleared all
of them, and found that I did not get the error when I tried to access
the HP Toolbox features. I than enabled them all again, except the
CITI software, which I don't really need to load into memory at
start-up, and am now the problem seems to have gone away.

Solved the same problem same way per your solution. Thanks.

FYI I found that the program used by Discover Card, apparently the same
one, doesn't cause that problem.
