Default explorer: Ileegal Operation

I uninstalled an application from the Add/Remove applications item in
the control panel named 'SearchAssistant', which apparently seemed like
a spyware app. The instant the uninstallation was completed, add/remove
programs closed and it never opened. The message displayed on double
clicking on it was of Access Restriction. On closing and attempting to
reopen the control panel, the same message was displayed. I restarted
the computer, and now during the time of shell loading, it displays a
message saying that the application explorer.exe has performed an
illegal operation and will be shut down. No other task loads up and the
system stays in that position until another restart.

Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
