Yes! It is possible. I have tried this before, but I don't remember the
exact procedure. You should set one of the computers as "Guest" and the other as "Host". Guest must connect itself to host and ask for pemission to access the data. Host should give it the permision, Then computers are connected. You should also go to "ctrl pnl Ntwrk Identification" to check your computer's name. It's needed. If you want to transfere a lot of data, I suggest you to unplug the old HD and install it inside the new PC. Because the speed of data transfere with cable is so low. I think something about 3 or 4 MB/Min. \ Javad "PattiChati" wrote in message ... I have to move the data from my old windows 98 computer to my new windows xp. I have seen where there are transfer cords or something like that. Do these work? Does it just transfer everything, even the stuff you don't want to transfer? Any information or instruction on this would be appreciated. Thanks. Patti |

Patti Patti, You can do it with Direct Cable Connection. The procedure for XP may be a little different. If it is try XP's Help for it. You can transfer only what you want. How to Setup Direct Cable Connection. http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/#How-To It's the first one on the list. Regards, Bill Watt Computer Help and Information http://home.epix.net/~bwatt/ |

The easiest way to do what you want is to transfer the hard drive from the old
machine to the new one, assuming that both are desktop machines. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "PattiChati" wrote in message ... Patti The cheapest method is to buy a" cross over cable" and network both PC's particularly if you want to keep the old PC I use my old PC's hard disk to backup my data and system which I do via the crossover cable Blair |
