Exactly what steps did you take when you installed Windows XP?

Did you choose the option to upgrade your existing installed Windows?

Did you choose the option to save the files from your previous version
of Windows?

Open Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. Do you see an item there
to remove (uninstall) Windows XP? If so then try using it and see if
that will bring back your previous Windows installation.
