-----Original Message----- In that case, all I can assume is that your System Manufacturer has a highly customised interface - and we need to know more about the make/model of your PC to be able to help. Try this.... Boot using the Floppy - type the following commands at the A:\ prompt..... DIR A: (you should get back a list of the programs on the floppy drive) DIR C: (you should get a message saying 'No Files Found) DIR D: (you should get a list of the files on the virtual drive created by the startup CD) DIR E: (you should get a list of files in the CD root directory - and some folders, amongst which will hopefully be the Win9x folder) See if that lot produces the expected results... - and post back -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's wrote in message ... -----Original Message----- OK - at least you're getting the right response now, since I made an error in that post (it was late at night here, and I'd only just got back from work - that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!g) here's the correct instructions! Boot the PC using the floppy then go to the CD using the command E: then type SETUP and see what happens Sorry for the confusion. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's wrote in message .. . -----Original Message----- Boot the PC using the floppy then go to the CD using the command c: then type SETUP and see what happens -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Karly" wrote in message .. . -----Original Message----- What's the error message you get when you try to use the restore CD?? - it may need to be booted from a floppy first, before the CD can function. My son formatted his hard drive, we can't get the computer to read restore cd. I replaced cd drive several months ago. Is this the problem? . The message I get when I put in the restore cd: Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key. I downloaded the WinME boot disk from bootdisk.com. I booted the PC. I reformatted the hard drive. I put the restore cd in and got the same message. Invaled system disk Replaced the disk, and then press any key. I booted the PC with the floppy. I went to the CD using c: and typed setup and it told me "This program cannot run in DOS mode. I know your time is valuable, it is to me, but I'm not good w/ computers. Thanks . Ok, I booted the PC with the floppy, I went to the cd using command E: , I typed in SETUP and got "This program cannot be run in DOS mode". Ooops. Let me try this again. Ah - I see! - that's an image of the installation, at a guess.
What's the make/model? try opening the readme file - at the A:\ prompt, type EDIT E:\README.TXT and see if the file contains instructions on how to use the disk. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's wrote in message ... It had instructions for restore that were the same as the others, insert the restore and follow the instructions. But this is where I get the invalid disk message. I have verified in the Bios that the ATAPI DVD-ROM is the first drive. That's why I didn't know if the fact that I have changed the cd drive would cause any problems. . |

Karly
can you copy the readme.txt file to a floppy from the A:\ prompt, type COPY E:\README.TXT a:\readme.txt and then email the file to me? - my email addie is valid (as is the alternative one on my website.). I really think, though, that the time has come for you to call eMachines - it seems to be very specific to their implementation of their Restore/recovery disk.
