Monitor Problem
Hi, I hope you are having a great day.
My eMachine hard drive failed so I purchased new one and reloade system from restore CD. Everything came up without problem; however, when I switched back to the eMachine monitor, or any other monitor than the one on the system when I restored the operating system, the system would not come up. With any monitor other than the one connected when I reloaded the OS, the blue ME screen comes up, flashes twice and then the black screen comes up and it just sits there. If I reconnect with monitor installed when I reloaded the system, it comes up just fine. The usual "found new device" window does not appear when changing monitors. Does anyone hae a clue as to how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance. |

What happens if you try booting into Safe Mode (Ctrl or F8 keys at boot-up)
with any of the 'other' monitors connected? If you can get into Safe Mode, open Device Manager and 'Remove' any/all Video Display Adapters and Monitors, re-boot into Normal Mode and let WinMe re-detect and install the appropriate drivers. I forgot to include that if I boot up in the SAFE MODE, the PC does come up.
Where do I change the monitor refresh mode, bios or ??? "Mike M" wrote: What happens of you change monitors and then boot to Safe Mode rather than Normal Mode? The problem could be due to the monitor refresh frequency and/or resolution for the monitor that works are too high for the monitors that don't work and need to be reduced. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP KenP wrote: Hi, I hope you are having a great day. Follow Mart's suggestion and remove all entries in Monitor in the Device
Manager. If that doesn't fix it then boot back into Safe Mode and remove all Video Display Adapter entries. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP KenP wrote: I forgot to include that if I boot up in the SAFE MODE, the PC does come up. Where do I change the monitor refresh mode, bios or ??? |

Thanks for the feedback and I'm pleased to read you've fixed your problem.
Out of curiosity did you need to remove the video adapter or was just removing the monitor entry in Device Manager enough? -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP KenP wrote: That did it. Thanks a heap. |
