"I also cannot use system restore as I've just got rid of a trojan which
meant turning it off" - perhaps you'd better turn it back on, then!!! Turning off System restore when dealing with malware is NOT recommended - except by idiot AV companies who can't be bothered to deal with the archive properly. Even then, they do say that you should turn it back on when finished!! Try a repair of IE - Reboot to Safe Mode Go to Add/Remove Programs and try a repair of Internet Explorer from there. Go to the entry for 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools' in Add/Remove Programs Click on Remove - and click on Repair on the window that pops up Reboot on request to Normal Mode If the above entry isn't there, you first need to uninstall all the patches applied, then do the repair, then reapply the patches The patches are listed in Add/Remove under the names 'Internet Explorer Qxxxxxx' highlight, click Remove - reboot if requested. Repeat until the MSIE6SP1 entry appears - then repair as above. Outlook Express update
I did re-able it after disabling, but I had no restore
points to go back to. Some of us stumble around this IT world in mortal ignorance and bow to the knowledge & experience of an oracle such as yourself. Well I tried repairing, then again after removing the patches to no avail. message reading "OE could not be started because MSOERES could not be foun. OE may not be installed correctly" Any suggestions, does it mean I've lost messages and addresses? -----Original Message----- "I also cannot use system restore as I've just got rid of a trojan which meant turning it off" - perhaps you'd better turn it back on, then!!! See if anything here helps courtesy of MikeM.
Joan MS KB 296512 - "OLEXP: Error Message: Outlook Express Could Not Be Started Because Msoe.dll Could Not Be Loaded" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296512) where the problem is due to problems with the Address Book. MS KB 272265 - "OLEXP: Error Message "Outlook Express Could Not Be Started Because MSOE.DLL Could Not Be Loaded" When You Start Outlook Express" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272265) where the problem is caused by mixed file versions MS KB 232480 - "OLEXP: Error Message: Outlook Express Could Not Be Started Because MSOE.DLL Could Not Be Loaded" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=232480) where the problem, similar to the one above, is due to uninstalling a later version of IE/OE. In addition you may also want to look at the following KB article although the error message here is slightly different in that it normally reads ""Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialised" and the problem here is due to the Identities key in the registry being corrupted in some way such 245419 - "OLEXP: You Receive an Error Message or Are Unable to Start Outlook Express" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=245419). -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP vlad wrote: Well I tried repairing, then again after removing the patches to no avail. message reading "OE could not be started because MSOERES could not be foun.
