Reinstall OE
If I uninstall OEv.6, where do I get a reinstall or upgrades for OE? I have
a couple of issues about OE. I have a security update Q823353. Will this be affected by a un-reinstall? Why do this; because when on dnsstuff email link the website says the application OE is not installed properly or corrupted. Links in IEv.6 drop down menu do not connect to OEv.6 operations like start new message, send a link, send a page are not working. |

Reinstall OE
What you want to do is to run a Repair of IE. In Control Panel, Add/Remove
Programs. find the entry for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, double-click it, choose Repair and let it go. It is wise to discontinue background applications and clean up TEMP and TIF files, first, during this operation, and I strongly recommend the Clean Boot procedures I describe he http://grystmill.com/articles/cleanboot.htm As your protective mechanisms, anti-virus, etc., should all end up turned off, the first thing you should do is to physically disconnect your system from any network that it is on, or if wireless, disconnect and disable the wireless adapter. You can also disable network adapters in Device Manager. If on dial-up only, use Connections tab of IE to set it to "Never dial" for the procedure. -- Gary S. Well, I did a clean boot as described and it took awhile. I reinstalled
IEv.6 and it still has the problem with the drop down menu items for new message, send a link and send a page. "Gary S. Terhune" none wrote in message ... Reinstall OE
1. What is DSNSTUFF besides a scam site quickly set up to take advantage of
people like you who worry too much? How do I test my IE/OE without shelling out money? 2. I had no idea what menus you're referring to in IE (or OE, for that matter) until I looked real hard and found them in IE under ToolsMail and News... Please, when posting, attempt to be precise and detailed in what it is you're referring to. My fault for not reading more carefully, but I would have suggested the same procedure to start with. 3. I'm surprised that IE Repair didn't fix it and I hope you *only* did IE Repair, not a true reinstall of IE6. The former is pretty much harmless, but the latter can cause real problems (just like reinstalling Windows over the top of an existing installation, you end up reverting files to older version, replacing newer versions that came primarily from Updates. Broken Updates and DLL Hell result.) 4. Have you ever had any other browsers or email programs installed? Because now that I've taken another look, my first thought is that some other program took over as your default email program, stole those menu items for itself and failed to restore the situation to it's previous state. Or some other type of similar trick that disabled that menu. Not saying that's what did it, but it's the first thought. I'm almost certain this isn't a Registry issue which means it's a DLL or EXE. 5. Look in Internet Options, Programs tab and see if Outlook Express is listed as your default Mail and News reader. 6. Perhaps someone who spends all their time on IE and OE will recognize the issue and have a solution, probably re-registering one or more DLLs. You DO NOT want to uninstall and/or reinstall either of the programs (they are part of the same package.) microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress Please properly *cross-post* to those groups with your question, and, as I mentioned before, try to be more precise in your description of the issue. "Multi-posting vs Crossposting" http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm 7. Do you actually use those menu items? If not, and nobody comes up with anything in the above groups, I'd simply forget about the whole thing. It is certainly not worth the hassle and possible further messing up of your system to do anything like uninstall/reinstall IE/OE. -- Gary S. Reinstall OE
The links in IE that enact operations in OE for New Message, Send Link and
Send Page are in a Drop down menu in IE ToolsMail and News or some have it on the toolbar Mail Icon. I do have FF2.x and TB but have not been using as of late. IE and OE are the Default programs. Once I did have FF and OE cross-linked but have since reordered the programs to there related applications. I think this happened sometime back and I have been just getting by without the links. It may have been a security update. I do use the restricted security level in OE and the IE restricted zone is high "custom" with all options disabled. Do you think that might be the problem? DNSstuff is a toolset for ip,traceroute, etc. I do not want to cross-post at this point because conversation is to far along. "Gary S. Terhune" none wrote in message ... 1. This is a Win98 group, so we are assuming you are using Win98, but in fact, are you?
The update you mention causing the problem is NOT listed as available for Win98, so how did you install it exactly? Or are you using another operating system and posting in the wrong group altogether?
