AGP Card is it faulty?
I recently installed a wireless card in my IBM Netvista (2271) PC all went
well. About ten days latter the machine starts up but no signal to the monitor. After about an hour or so the system appears to have re-booted and the monitor comes into life? So I took out the wireless card and reinstalled (clean) windows ME. The symptoms are the same? Do you think this is the graphics card or could I have a bigger problem? |

Odd, that you were able to re-install WinMe without any 'apparent' video
signal/monitor issues during the installation. Possibly a failing PSU - may not be able to handle the extra power requirement of the wireless card (and symptoms are not un-typical of a failing PSU.) Try substituting/replacing with a higher power PSU. Mart "Phil" wrote in message ... I recently installed a wireless card in my IBM Netvista (2271) PC all went well. Mart,
Thanks - any Idea what PSU would fit the bill and where to purchase in the UK or US? Phil "Mart" wrote in message ... Phil, I guess that you are posting from the UK (GMT?) so you should be able
to pick up a replacement PSU from PC World or Maplin, etc., - or even your local PC shop! And, as you are using an AGP Card, I would also guess that your PC has an ATX PSU - be sure to look at the label on the PSU itself, (or user manual) it will give you the info. that you need. Maybe increase the size (wattage) by one notch, from your existing one. (If your PC is 'quite old' then it may have an AT PSU.) e.g. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/sto...amp=3310220935 or http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...3m11&source=15 Take your old PSU with you, if you decide to visit in person - and hope you get an assistant who knows their job g - get a direct 'type' replacement (It's VERY unlikely that you will get an absolute (Manufacturer) replacement. N.B - Be sure to make copious notes of the connector positions as you remove the old PSU. BTW - There's no guarantee that the PSU is the problem - only substitution will confirm. I took a while "off" to get the house ready for winter - note that it's already here so I'm late at that as usual - and missed this. Just as an off-chance idea? Is it possible that the OP has simply knocked the video card a bit loose or even something else while rooting about inside the case? Just an idea, of course, but one that seems to have been missed in the discussion and one that I'd have likely started checking right away before investigating power. -- Galen - MS MVP - Windows (Shell/User & IE) http://dts-l.org/ "My life is spent in one long effort to escape from the commonplaces of existence." - Sherlock Holmes |
