setupx.dll problem
First off i'm a novice at this. I have a computer that has windows 98 se,
that i gave to my sister inlaw and she was having problems, so she had a friend lookat it, now when you turn it on it reads cannot find device file needed to run windows, something about the device file no longer exists.I ran file checker, it says the following file is corrupted setupx.dll. My question is if I get a copy of windows 98 se with the C.O.A can I restore the file back? and how easy is that to do? Thanks Jim |

setupx.dll problem
Disregarding for a moment the claim by System File Checker (SFC) that setupx.dll is
corrupt, tell me, when you get the error message at startup that refers to "cannot find device file", what file is it naming there? Either somewhere as a title for the error screen, or else at the beginning or at the end of the error screens, the file or device causing the problem should be named. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ AumHa VSOP: http://aumha.net DTS-L.ORG: http://66.39.69.143/ "454 56 chevy" wrote in message ... does boot up after several pages telling me to press any key. Corrupted Setupx.dll After Installing Windows 98 Second Edition

Thanks Jim SFC will allow you to restore an individual file off the original CD. (or a copy of all the cabs and other setup files copied to your harddrive). What's odd, is that I just ran SFC and it said that same file was corrupt. I let it reinstall the file and save a backup for me. When it finished, I went to the backup and the file was the same size as the replacement. I went to dos, and used the COMP command (COMPare). The files were identical. I tend to wonder if this is a fault of SFC itself, because my log file shows that the last time I ran SFC it did the same thing. I dont have that older one, so I cant compare that one, but I think it's likely that SFC is finding fault with this particular file for no reason. If the computer is working well, I'd ignore this one file, but if you can find a CD, let it do the restore and see what happens. |
