Default Initialization of the Help Center failed

I already tried the recommended fix by MS to copy 'REGSVR32.EXE WBEM' and
still get the same message when opening 'Help' center.
Somewhere along the line had I lost the MSDOS Prompt and DXDiag,
but also recovered those already.
Is it possible one of the crucial updates vanished also?
Does 'Scandisk' come into play, if deleting and not saving?
Appreciate the help.

Harry.

And the error message was? I assume that you have installed MSDAC 2.8SP1
which is the usual way of fixing many errors when opening Win Me's Help &
Support. You can download and install MDAC 2.8 SP1 from
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...f/MDAC_TYP.EXE

I can't help but speculate once again how it is that you are able to so
thoroughly trash your system with such frequency. I would have thought
that after all these years and your many postings about the problems you
have encountered that you might have learnt how to avoid such problems!

The content of the 'Subject' title.

I assume that you have installed MSDAC 2.8SP1

I do have it in my repertoir of downloads on the next drive, but simply
didn't remember it. It would have saved me from your verbal abuse.

Thanks for the link as a reminder.

FYI I didn't do anything to 'trash' the system. Several times the IE froze
on me with distorted graphics and when using ScanDisk, I get the following
report:: The size of the C:\PROGRA~1\Sygate\SPF\DEBUG.LOG file is being
misreported. Some programs might be unable to find the entire file or there
might be invalid data toward the end of the file.
Choose 'Fix' to have Scandisk correct the size information for the above
named file etc.
At any rate, it is 'fixed' now and I thank you for your assistance.

Verbal abuse my foot. You really do need to consider what you are saying.
I asked a straight forward question and in response it is you that is
throwing the abuse around.

The content of the 'Subject' title.

And the next line with the error number was?

As for your doing "nothing to your system" take it from me that you did,
you have an appalling record and continue to display evidence of this
virtually every day in this newsgroup.

You know what the scary thing is?? He attempts to give advice to
newbies on here and the antivirus groups. However, so far he is like a
certain MVP who used to frequent this group......he also only gives
links to 3rd party fixes. Sheesh......we get two for the price of one.
Big whoop!!

I hope you are both/all keeping well. I'll try and drop you a line, not
that there's much news hereabouts. It's been pretty quiet around here
although I'm pleased to be back in contact with Noel.

Doing OK......got Portugal flights booked for June. Now I have to
figure out where we will be sightseeing. Would love to get up to
Galicia and Santiago de Compostela. Our name originates just to the
east of there, I believe. Perhaps as far over as Valladolid (sp?).

Spanish parish records are now on the LDS website, but might as well
have a surname like Smith!! And every 3rd Spaniard is called "Jose
Maria".....grin. Perhaps I will send Alias up to Lugo to find Ron's
ancestors, lol.

Must write Noel again and I too am pleased that he is back in contact
with us. Not much new here either.

Hah!
I've been hiding under the floorboards all the time

A few financial/health problems have precluded my participating in these
discussions - hopefully they'll be sorted in the near future and I'll be able
to get back in full-time (looks like Harry is back to his worrying best - how
he does it I *really* don't know!)

In the meantime. thanks for the thoughts, everyone - and if anyone needs to
get hold of me try using the following addy for a faster response.....
