Default No Quick Launch toolbar in WinME

Hi
I´m new to WinME (but I am a longtime WinXP user) and am currently
involved in sprucing up a small machine (1.8GHz, 256MB with 20GB HD of
which 6GB are free) running on Millennium.
Having recently added a second user account, I now find that I am
unable to create a Quick Launch bar on the taskbar but only in the
second account. The Quick Launch bar is still there and functioning as
it always was in the first account.
When I right-click on the taskbar, and then click on ToolbarsQuick
Launch I get an error message saying that this toolbar cannot be
created.
Does anybody know why and how I can get out of this situation?
TIA
Paul

Paul:

Go to C:\WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftInternet Explorer and create a
new folder named "Quick Launch".
See if it helps.

Harry.

The Quick Launch toolbar is part of Internet Explorer not the core of
Win ME.
You need to repair IE (via add-remove programs).
Regards Mike.

Mike
Thanks for your replies.
I am actually using IE6 SP1 and the fact that the Quick Launch bar
works fine in the other user account suggests to me that the problem is
not due to IE6 malfunctioning or in need of repair.
Is this a reasonable conclusion?
Thanks again
Paul

In all probability your Quick Launch folder was deleted by some action
(verify) and you need to recreate it, adding the desired content manually.

I don't have 'other user accounts' on my box so I can't test it for you but
the following KB article *may* point you in the right direction :-

"Customizing Windows for Personal Use (1 of 3)"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312933/en-us

See if the "Setting Up Windows for Multiple Users and Creating Additional
User Profiles" section helps.

Good luck

Mart

OK, I've just had a play with setting-up 'new user' accounts - Not going
there again, it plays havoc with (kills) all existing SR points.

However, my guess is that your second user account is corrupted.

Delete (remove) your second user account, log-on again with your first user
account and re-create a 'new' second user account. It *should" duplicate the
existing 'first user' account - complete with existing QL bar.

Because of the crud it left behind (or should that be 'it didn't leave
behind'? - SR points! - thank goodness for scanreg /restore!!), I'm not
prepared to try any further tests. But if you're still unable to progress, I
would suggest that you start over again with a completely new (first user)
log-on/password. You might find this KB article helpful:-
"How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at
Startup"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;152104
esp. items 8,9 & 10

When it comes to setting up again, then if you no longer want a password,
enter a name but do not enter any password at all, then click OK.
DO NOT "cancel".

From a personal point of view, can't see the benefit of 'multi-user
accounts' in WinMe as all users have access to all files. No secrecy.

HTH and good luck

Mart
