*Some* software, lynda?
You'll have to be specific.
But in all likelyhood you have encountered malware of *some* kind.
I'm sure proper assistance will soon follow.

Harry.

What software? Some details might help! Tried uninstalling it? Any
better?

Can you change it in Real Mode DOS (WinMe Startup Floppy Disk) using the
Time and Date commands? .. Or even in Safe Mode??

Tried running your AV/Malware utilities?

The software was virus protection, the pc has not been on the net, so I doubt
it is spyware. will try the safe mode option

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

And eating enough resources so that it's killing the clock?

Is it on the 'net now? If not and you don't regularly bring unscanned disks
to it, why bother with the AV?
