Glad to hear that Mike's *dark comments* helped you make that good decision.
We obviously all feel the same way. You will be even better off if you
replace McAfee with one of the smaller footprint ones. But that is for next
year.....or if you have a problem.

Cheers.....Heather

No, I've been checking in here for quite a while. It was, in fact, Mike
Maltby's recurrent dark comments about Norton that got me persuaded to
remove NAV instead of resubscribing. I'm glad I did.
Thanks for all the feedback. This is a very helpful group.

You would be well advised to ask before using any of those important
programs, to keep your computer *clean*, unless you are sure of their
proper
function.

My one-year subscription to NAV's LiveUpdate has expired and I decided
to remove NAV 2005 from my computer and install McAfee.

I now no longer appear to have a hang upon booting up the computer nor a
hang when closing it down. I've been having to use the restart button
and then waiting for Scandisk to clear things up before starting or
closing WinMe.

Is it possible that NAV has been the cause of these issues, which
started about a year ago??

I've also been experiencing similar problems to Richard. So it's Norton. I've
been blaming AOL.

AOL never caused me any problems when I was on ME - it was boringly
behaving, even in the Beta's I tested for them. Mind you, I didn't use the
AOL browser - I'd log on with AOL, minimise it, and then surf in IE, etc.
