can anyone help? Everytime I try to start my computer and
load windows I get an error after signing in saying that
Explorer has performed an illegal operation and will have
to be shut down. Of course then the computer will not load
windows at all. Any suggestions?

When you get an "illegal operation" error message, click the "Details" button, and
post back with the exact details word for word, up to but not including the memory
registers.

Can you start in Safe Mode, or do you get the same error there?
-Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu
(boot menu) appears.
-Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.
