ME CAB files
Hi Mike
I didn't know if you'd be here tonight. Thanks for all your help. I'm pleased to read that all is now well although personally I think a system drive of just 500MB is too small and means that you won't for example have the benefit of Win Me's system restore. However not knowing the size of your HD I will leave it to anon to provide you with help as they appear to know more about your PC than you have posted here. No, I reset the partition to be the entire drive after I did the FDISK /MBR thing. The anonymous sender said, "run FDISK again as per Mike's instructions and set up a big drive", and I did do that. My "new" ME computer has a 40GB hard drive that is now all set as C:. The program FDISK is not very intuitive, I really did struggle with it for a while. It seems like it is doing things back to front. RAM compatibility. Start by checking the spec of each PC. Hopefully both will be using SDRAM but it is possible that the older PC will only be single sided and could even be P66 (its speed) with the newer PC more likely to be P100 or perhaps P133. Single sided should work in the newer PC but could cause problems, also any expansion rather depends on having free slots on the newer PC. The speed of the RAM will drop to the lowest speed component installed. I will take the lid off my 98SE computer and check it all out tomorrow. I have the lid off my "new" ME computer. There are seven cards in there, some of them must have something to do with the company's network. I will not be taking anything out though, the machine is working okay so it can stay as it is as far as the cards are concerned. I really don't think I want to set up a network, that sound's a bit complicated. It is attractive to me to have all the RAM in one place though, and if I can attach my old drive then I would have even loads more space. Once I got my new toy working I phoned the lady who gave me the machine and thanked her. She seemed surprised that I got it to work. She mentioned that the others in her office couldn't get their machines to go. Maybe they don't know to call into this group and ask a question. I'm very glad that I did. James |
