Critical Update Not Installing Properly????
Every time I check for updates I keep getting the same critical update
(Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands [KB828026] ). I have downloaded and installed this update four times on different occasions. I can install it and check again before I restart and it says there is one critical update available. It doesn’t matter if I restart or not. For some reason it will not stay applied. If I look at my installation history it shows that I have installed this critical update four times. Does anyone know why this happening and how I can make the repair? Thanks, Bob |

Critical Update Not Installing Properly????
1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Search for any and all files named WMP.DLL and rename them (wmp.old will do). 3. Re-boot into Normal Mode. 4. Re-download WMP9 and then KB828026 (NOT the 885492 update!). 5. Re-boot. 6. Check to see if the update is offered again - only the 885492 should be offered, and you should take it. 7. Re-boot - and go back to Windows Update for any further updates 9. Check to see ifthe 828026 update is offered again -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Bob L." wrote in message ... Critical Update Not Installing Properly????
Noel, I renamed the WMP.DLL file and downloaded WMP9, then I downloaded
Security Update for WMP9 KB911565 and Critical Update for WMP9 Script Commands KB828026. After downloading and installing them, I checked for updates again and the Critical Update for WMP9 Script Commands KB828026 was again available. Do you have any more ideas why this could be happening? Thanks, Bob "Noel Paton" wrote: 1. Boot into Safe Mode. 2. Search for any and all files named WMP.DLL and rename them (wmp.old will do). 3. Critical Update Not Installing Properly????
Oh Gawd! - MS have botched it again!!
For some reason, the order of install for 828026 always seems to be wrong - and it gets put at the end of the install list, instead of at the start. As a consequence, it finds that the file it's trying to install is older than the file it's supposed to be replacing, and the install fails. I'll have to rehash my instructions again 1. Boot into Safe Mode. 2. Search for any and all files named WMP.DLL and rename them (wmp.old will do). 3. Re-boot into Normal Mode. 4. Re-download WMP9 and install it 5 Reboot, then download and install KB828026 (NOT the 885492 or 911565 update!). 5. Re-boot. 6. Check to see if the update is offered again - only the 885492 and/or 911565 updates should be offered, and you should take it/them. 7. Re-boot - and go back to Windows Update for any further updates 9.
