Open With...

Can anybody tell me how to remove uninstalled program
names from "Open With" for example I still have Real
player mentioned in there and I uninstalled that crappy
program about 6 months ago. Thanks

This was previously posted by Ron Badour MS MVP.
REMOVING OBSOLETE PROGRAMS FROM OPEN WITH LIST.
Remove the associated file types and the associated applications
should disappear. Open Explorer, View, Options, File Types, highlight
the file type and click remove. If you still use the file type but with a
different application, you will have to add the file type back so be sure
to check out the information closely before deleting it. Note: While this
is the preferred method, I've removed the entry by doing a registry
search on the application name as it appears in the Open With list and
deleting it. If the file extension is no longer being used, you will have
to
search for and remove it from the registry also.

I suggest you reinstall, then uninstall. I just ran the uninstall
and except for a few ".ico" files in "C:\Program Files\Real", it=20
seemed to work, even without a reboot.
