The path to the CDRom drive is probably wrong. You can make a floppy boot
disk with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd or you can download one he http://www.bootdisk.com/ -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "rc" rc@home wrote in message ... If so, is there another way to create start up disk You can create a Win98 Startup (System) diskette with all the necessary files and generic CDrom support four ways: 1. In the Control Panel/Add New Programs. 2. Run the Bootdisk.bat file in the C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND folder. You need the Windows\Command\ebd folder for this to work. The folder is created if a Startup diskette was made during the Windows install. This will work from Dos also. You will not need your CD for this. From a Dos prompt change to the Windows\Command folder and enter Bootdisk. 3. Run the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the Win98 CD in the Tools/Mtsutil/Fat32ebd directory. Do this from any Windows machine. This diskette will be lacking the Extract utility and some others. OK for installing Windows, but make a regular one when you can. 4. You can also download one from www.bootdisk.com Run the download, don't copy it to the diskette. One, two and four create a temporary Ram drive for Dos utilities so your CD will be one drive letter higher temporarily while using either one. e.g D: to E: The diskette made from www.bootdisk.com may use the letter R:. Use these if you will be needing Dos utilities. Test it, make sure you can access your CD with it. Regards, Bill Watt Win98 Computer Help & Other Information http://home.ptd.net/~bwatt/ |
