Default Shortcut Overlay Arrows

Resubmiting due to spelling error in "Subject"!
-
Some of the desktop icons have little white shortcut overlay arrows on the
bottom left. Tweak UI does not eliminate them as it should. I had this
problem before and found a solution from MS Knowlege Base but now my search
does not turn up anything.
Can anyone help? Thank You!

I am running WIN98SE.

Keep your arrows, unless William Tell was your great grandfather. There
are times to know what you are dealing with, shortcut or no.
Furthermore, you are lucky all that happened is you lost your tweak.
Another possibility is that the update might have crashed, had the tweak
been more intrusive. There is a tweak that messes with "ISSHORTCUT" in
the Registry that causes mayhem. If you really don't like the look of
things, just try a new Theme or Scheme, and let those arrows be!

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

Jane,

That site contains the tweak that PCR cautioned against. When it is used,
it can cause double entries to be created in the right click context menu
and most would prefer an arrow to that mess.

Hi Ron,
I'm sorry if I clashed, but I only answered as I have
been using that tweak for over six months and never had
a problem with. I also have my tweakui set as well.

Hi again Ron,
I am also running Win98oem, standard vanilla stuff, perhaps
that is why I've never had a prob?
Certainly wouldnt steer anyone toward a problem intentionally.
Btw, thanks for your tip regarding getting a photo of myself in
the Device Manager area (general), took a bit of messing to get it
to the right size .bmp, but have had it for over 3months, including
some blurb behind the Support Button.
Thanks

Hi Jane,

No clash here--it appeared you did not know about the possible problem with
the context menu. I believe that when there is a possible side effect, we
ought to caution users and let them sort out whether or not they want to use
the procedure.

I had a sure fire way of getting rid of the arrow when I used W98--I did not
have any shortcuts (except the ones without arrows) on my desktop. The
arrow does not appear in shortcuts in the QL or start menu.

I, for one, don't understand the burning need to get rid of the arrows.
I *like* my icons to accurately describe what they represent, s.

I actually liked the light arrows because I am kind of picky in how my
desktop looks. However, I accept the black arrows and so life goes on. :
