Missing Icons from Start Button -
My Dad's computer is missing all of the icons on his start button. We
did the normal defrag and scan disk but hasn't been able to run his visus checker (via AOL). He also apparently can't open up some AOL email documents. When someone came over to help troubleshoot it the following odd questions were asked. 1) Does he have a second computer attached to the first one (never) 2) When he called AOL they mentioned that he had called last Friday (the day the problem started) but he in fact didn't. (perhaps my mom did and screwed the computer up). Is there a virus that would cause this to happen? ie make the icons on the start button dissapear. |

You should be able to run the virus checker without opening AOL. There
is only one person on this group familiar with AOL and all of its dubious benefits.....Noel Paton. If he can't answer you, I would suggest you phone AOL again and get them to help you out. Haven't heard of a virus that would do this......but then again, not sure what a "start button" is.... Get a better ISP than AOL......they overcharge and are extremely proprietary. Not to mention cr*ppy. Just my honest 2 cents worth.....Heather wrote in message oups.com... My Dad's computer is missing all of the icons on his start button. AOL provide McAfee Online as AV - which to my mind rather defeats the
object.... so I've stayed well clear! -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Heather" wrote in message ... If I'm not mistaken, he means "Quick Launch", next to the "Start" button. That situation can easily be remedied by locating the folder and placing the desired itmes in it. If the entire folder is missing, one can be created. Hope that helps. Harry. "Godfrey Wilkes" wrote in message ... wrote in message oups.com...
