What can I do?
(thanks, Dave!)
Huh.... It seems likely that your computer is set to boot from the HD before anything else - but maybe I'm reading your original post wrong. Please answer the following questions 1) What happens when you try to boot to Safe Mode? (Hold down the CTRL key during the POST boot phase - you should get to the Startup menu screen) 2) What happens when you boot with a Windows ME boot floppy? (or the startup disk - is this a floppy, or a CD?) The more detail, the better. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Dave Patrick" wrote in message ... It won't get to the start-up screen. It gets to the (Splash?) screen that
says the name of the operating system, and it hangs there. (this is the screen right after the Sony screen...it is the ME screen, then *normally* the screen would go black while the booting process is doing its thing before you starting seeing the icons and all that stuff on the desktop) But, it never gets to that point. The startup disk is a floppy, and I can do the system restore, scandisk, all those tests, but when all is said and done, and I attempt to start the computer, it gets hung up at that same screen. I can't boot in safe mode or any other mode. It's almost like some little glitch is holding the hard drive from proceeding past a certain point in the boot process. "Noel Paton" wrote in message ... Which makes it even more odd.

I answered someone in THIS newsgroup. It would have been *rude* not to have
answered. I have manners. "Dave B" wrote in message ... Which makes it even more odd. "Alias" wrote in message ... Dave B wrote: Again, you should post to windowsme.general, this is a Windows XP group. If you would look at the headers, he posted to both. Alias |
