Antivirus software for 98
Can I ask why you pussies are continuing this anti-virus thread for so
long? I've posted links to where you can download Norton Anti-virus 2002 for FREE, which IS COMPATIBLE with windows 98 and for which you can still download functional virus definition files FOR FREE. And I still shake my head and wonder why you PUSSIES are so paranoid about viruses and win-98 in the first place - given that you probably haven't seen a virus on your systems for years (and you pussies are probably on dial-up anyways) ... |

Anyhow, I'm still fairly happy with the switch to avast!. I was happy with the switch to AVG (which I did years ago - I just kept getting the McAfee .zip files out of curiosity, I think). Unfortunately, I didn't turn off AVG's autoupdate in time to stop the final "update" that just pops up every time the machine runs a banner about updating, TWICE (and only when you run things), which if course you can't. I really ought to get round to uninstalling it. [] (I use AVIRA on here - don't know if that runs under '9x, I think not.) -- J. P. Gilliver. I'm not paranoid, or even worried - I'd be most surprised if I ever got a virus on that machine. But there is such a thing as intellectual curiosity: some of us like to see how long we can keep some things going. It's a bit like keeping an old car or other piece of machinery going - as a sort of hobby, even though it's not as efficient as a modern one. In fact I assume it's the case for the vast majority of those continuing to play with '9x: I very much doubt they are using it as their primary system. Not that there aren't some: I have a friend who uses '98, his main activities being genealogy and transferring his LPs to CD. He is on dialup, doesn't use the web (not IMO something you can do on dialup these days), only email. AFAICR he has no AV at all. -- J. P. Gilliver.
