what is best sound card for a win98se system?
hi all.
what is the best soundcard for a win98se system?! my computer came back from the shop, but they had to use a very "cheap" soundcard for it, a C-Media CMI 8738/c3dx PCI, 6 channel. It sounds OK, even with the version 1.0 driver in it.But: I wonder if i am missing something?! I find in the stores that all of the new sound cards are for winxp, now, I cannot use them. I know that on Amazon.com, and other places, that there are many many older cards now real cheap. but which one is a good card made with 98se compatibility? It is for a gaming computer, cannot use too too much cpu-cycles. sempron 1800, a sis741gx motherboard, 1 gig ram. So how is my currant C-media card, compared to some of the others? should I stick with that one? Audigy 2 zs, that card was once made for win98se, but I see at best buy that even now they are winxp only. so many cards, and seems that everone that i read about has "issues" somewheres. thanks...freestone |

I don't have a recommendation but I have to ask, if your current card sounds
OK and presents no problems, why are you even looking? Granted, I have a tin ear but I have never really noticed any difference except when I have added decent speakers. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "freestonew" wrote in message ups.com... hi all. what is the best soundcard for a win98se system?! my computer came back from the shop, but they had to use a very "cheap" soundcard for it, a C-Media CMI 8738/c3dx PCI, 6 channel. I have both cards but haven't yet installed them on any system. They're probably 3 years old at this point. I don't know what the "zs" indicates in "Audigy 2 zs". |
