Default Start up after re format of hard drive

I reformated a dell optiplex i was given and created a
start disk from my old win98 disk. I ran fdisk
successfully and get to the "format c:" command and
get "Bad Command" error message. I have tried using the
command "extract ebd.cab format.com" command and still get
the same error. I followed the start up disk instruction
for extracting from the win98 cd through the
tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd folder to floopy. It will not
extract the file. what can I do?

Default Start up after re format of hard drive

hello.
just if u have the right start up disk so u don't need to
extract the files.
just use the command [a:\format\q\s c: ] where q = quick
format - s = copy files system
if u need just to copy the start up system just use the
command [sys c:]
but after u done with the fdisk u have to be sure that u
activate the partion that you wanna the system be
installed on it.
it's the 2nd chioise in the fdisk menu.
good luck

Look at the floppy start up disk you made--it sounds like format.com is
missing. Use the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the W98 CD:
tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd to make your start up disk. I don't understand what
you said about the tool in your post.

She also doesn't need to using any switches if the start up floppy disk is
correctly made.
