Freeze up

When I try and open My Computer, Network Nieghborhood, or
Control Panel the computer freezes.

Compaq Presario 1650
win98
233 processor
64 mgs ram

a frequent fix is to extract a new copy of the rundll32.exe program from your
distribution cd to replace the copy on the drive
start
run
"SFC"
extract one file from installation disk
rundll32.exe

Do NOT use the other function of SFC it does not work it finds altered files
not wrong files and there will be literallt hundreds of altered files if you
have ever been to windows update installed software or even changed a setting
since the pc was new. replacing the new files with old ones would be
dangerous. Rundll32.exe has not altered

Will I need the win98 disk (s) to do this?

Yes
the files may be installed on your hard drive, common locations are \win98
and \windows\options\cabs

you could try start
find
files or folders
named "*.cab"

if you get a lot of .cab files in a single folder with almost consecutive
names, driver 10 driver 11 netqwork etc then that is a copy of your windows
cd
