Default Repair IE

This is really tricky in WinME. Best confine this to the WinME newsgroup to
which I'm crossposting this reply.

Hi all

I am running Windows Millenium. I want to uninstall IE and reinstall with
a
fresh downloaded copy from Microsoft. Is there any problems with doing
this.
I want to get rid of some adware (have tried all the remove software)

Also, I was told there is a repair facility in the control panel for IE.
How
would I run this?

Any help appreciated

Kind regards

Hi.
Two-part question, so two-part answer.......
1) Repairing IE -
Reboot to Safe Mode
Go to Add/Remove Programs and repair Internet Explorer from there.
Go to the entry for 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools'
in Add/Remove Programs
Click on Remove - and click on Repair on the window that pops up
Reboot on request to Normal Mode

If the above entry isn't there, you first need to uninstall all the patches
applied, then do the repair, then reapply the patches
The patches are listed in Add/Remove under the names 'Internet Explorer
Qxxxxxx'
highlight, click Remove - reboot if requested.
Repeat until the MSIE6SP1 entry appears - then repair as above.

2) if you find that you really can't do anything in IE6 (or even uninstall
it properly), then I suspect that you may have reinstalled ME over itself
without uninstalling IE6 first - in which case your only recourse will be to
(as you already suggested) uninstall IE completely, and reinstall it.
Unfortunately, this process break a number of other things in Win ME,
because of the way that IE is bound into the OS, and it can only be done
with proper preparation. - look here for instructions on the procedure (and
either email the site's feedback link, or post back here with any
questions - BEFORE you start!)
