While installing Windows ME for dual boot, system halted.
I have Windows XP installed on drive 0, partition 1, formatted ntfs. I have
formatted partition 3 as fat32 and made it primary as well (partition 2 is ntfs). I have a 2nd hard drive that is a sata with 2 partitions formatted ntfs. I am using a boot manager called "Graphical Boot manager" or GAG. I set it to boot to my fat32 drive and proceeeded to install Windows ME on that drive. During setup, when it tries to reboot for the 1st time, I get the error "Cannot find or load krnl386.exe, access to the file denied, system halted" I booted to XP and copied the file to the root folder and to the \windows folder. When I tried to boot ME again I received the same message again. I have an ASUS K8V deluxe motherboard with an AMD 64 3200+ processor and 1.5 GB Ram. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank You Kevin Nielsen |

Thank you for your suggestion, the GAG website had no useful information. I
used fdisk and made that partition active and tried to install windows me on that partition but I got the same error. I tried your boot program "bootitng" and I got the same error again. any other ideas? Thank You Kevin "Mike M" wrote in message ... Anyone have any suggestions? Check with the GAG web site/documentation how to do what you are trying to do. I don't use GAG but rather BiNG (www.bootitng.com) and to do what you are trying to do one needs to configure the boot manager appropriately. It would appear that on rebooting the system is attempting to access the incorrect partition. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] Kevin J. According to the MS website, Win ME needs to be installed on your first
partition and XP must be installed last (on second partition). Otherwise important files needed for starting Windows XP could be overwritten. Using a proper Partition Manager means that you can avoid this type of
problem - so long as you follow their instructions!! -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "korbendallis" wrote in message ... According to the MS website, Win ME needs to be installed on your
first partition This is only the case if you wish to use Microsoft's somewhat pathetic attempt of a boot manager. Using a proper boot manager such as BING or even Boot Magic then no such restriction applies but you do need to read the relevant documentation. Link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...e/meandxp.mspx 100% irrelevant to this thread. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] korbendallis wrote: According to the MS website, Win ME needs to be installed on your first partition and XP must be installed last (on second partition).
