USB AV capture device - software install
I recently installed the software for a USB AV capture device with the
intention of converting my VHS video tapes to DVD. The box stated that the minimum OS requirement was Win XP/2000. However, on closer examination I found that the drivers for the eMPIA EM2800 chipset were compatible with Win98SE (the .INF file said so), and the included software (PVR Plus and Cyberlink PowerProducer 2 Gold) were both specified to run on Win98SE. So I went ahead and attempted an automatic installation using the installer software (setup.exe) but it told me that I required Win 2K/XP. I then attempted a manual installation of the drivers and was successful. I also succeeded in installing (and running) PVR Plus. So it appears that the only software that cannot support Win98SE is the automatic installer. shrug Having said that, I am having difficulties with PowerProducer 2 Gold. For some reason it doesn't recognise that either of my two boxes are running Windows 98SE. :-( Any suggestions as to what PowerProducer could be looking for? - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

USB AV capture device - software install
These kinds of problems are in a separate universe from the one I inhabit,
but I read this recently and found it pretty interesting. Who knows, it may even be helpful as well. Different chipset (I think) but very cool detective work to solve his problem. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29356 IN 98SE, I'm just happy to get my 1gb PNY working.
