Networking Issues
I have an old PC running Windows 98. The Motherboard died
and I had to put a new one in. I have gotten the PC back up and running with one exception: I cannot connect to the internet. Very strange issue though I can browse a local network and I can Ping to the internet by IP Address. I cannot Ping by name. I get an error "Unable to resolve Host Website name" I have tried to setup a Local Hosts file to see if that would help but it does not. I have already removed and reinstalled the Network adapter and all parts such as Client for Microsoft Networking. . . Also I have removed and reinstalled IE and am running IE 6 w/ sp1 but am still unable to browse. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. JC The PC Guy. |

It sounds like you haven't set the DNS server in My Computer - Control Panel - Network - (TCP/IP Properties) - DNS (unless you're using DHCP, in which case it might be set by your DHCP server; if you're doing DHCP locally, perhaps via a router, you might need to set it there) Normally your ISP will tell you the identity of their DNS server(s). -- The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to minimize spam.
