Restore .dll

Long story, but I'll try to be brief. Just installed WMP6.4 and all updates
to try to enable the computer to play embedded streaming videos (which are
streamed through a 6.4 player on the sites that I've seen). I then
reinstalled WMP7 and all its updates over itself. I'm not certain but I
believe 6.4 (mplayer2.exe) comes on the OS disc and is part of the OS
installation. In any case I must have inadvertantly deleted it some time
ago.

The ploy was not successful, since I still can't stream videos, but that's
not the reason for this post. My registry checker utility indicates that the
following file is missing: pnwrap.dll (everything was clean as a whistle
before I started).

So my questions are these:
Should this file be restored, and where can I get it?

I searched the OS disc but couldn't find it, but I'm rarely able to find
anything on that disc so it may be there. TIA

Correct. It is in WIN98_46.CAB.

Got an IE 5.0 disc? It is in PNFILTER.CAB

It isn't. To search the OS disc successfully,
you actually need to search for files NAMED *.CAB,
CONTAINING TEXT (your file name goes here).

In other words, put *.CAB in the NAMED box
when you run the Find, and put the actual file name,
such as PNWRAP.DLL, in the CONTAINING TEXT box.

Hugh, thanks for all that knowledegable assistance. As it turns out, I
believe it is safe to delete the registry associations to this missing file
pointed out by the Fix-It utility. I reverted the drive with GoBack to a
time before the problem started and discovered there was no pnwrap.dll on
the system, nor is it on my IE6 disk from Microsoft. This indicates to me
that the associations were caused by downloading WMP6.4, which originally
must have been current with IE5. So I've deleted the associations, registry
is clean, and except for the nasty (and I gather not uncommon) annoyance of
not being able to strream embedded files with Windows extensions, things are
back to normal. I'll post back if/when they head south.
