Laptop Hangs on Shutdown

I have a 5 year-old Compaq Presario Laptop. Recently I
installed Win98 2nd Ed over Win98 on it. Now it hangs
when I shutdown and I have to power off without knowing if
it is ready to shutdown.

It hangs on the "windows is shutting down" phase.
Sometimes it will start up fine and others it goes though
the improper shutdown startup checkdisk routine.

How do I adjust it to shutdown property?

Hi,

This is a common problem in Win98 SE where Fast Shutdown is still enabled.
Run MSCONFIG, click Advanced, and make sure Fast Shutdown is disabled.
If the Win98 SE Shutdown Supplement was installed this option will be not
appear in MSConfig. If that doesn't do it go to James Eshelman's Shutdown
Troubleshooting Site and go through it step by step.
