Default Internet connections

We have two 98 and one 98se boxes. Those 3 are in a work
group. The rest of our computers are in a domain.

None of the three 98 boxes can ping the dns server (but
can ping the gateway), but the 98se box can get on the
internet. The other two can't.

All 3 computer can access our network but not the two 98
boxes can't access the internet.

I've tried the ipconfig release/renew commands and still
no luck.

Please help.

My understanding is that Win98 did not support ICS until SE was released.

The two 98's were able to use the internet at our old
location through our proxy server. Now at our new
location we don't use the proxy server.

So you're saying I need to upgrade these two to SE? Am I
understanding correctly?

Ok, 'now' you tell me that this is a 'new' location - obviously this also
means a 'new' network.

Have you searched for an aberrant HOSTS file?

No, I haven't searched any host files. I don't wouldn't
know what to look for. can you help me with this?

So the here's the whole story with the 98 machines. we
move to another location. as you guessed a new network
was established also. There's a total of three 98's and
one 98se. one of the 98's was a laptop that could access
everything normally, just like the 98se. I just don't
know why these two 98's are haveing problems. If there's
any more info you need to you know or to clear things up.
please let me know. i'm new at this.

thanks for your support.

A HOSTS file is a hidden file (with no extension) that will be in the
c:\windows directory. You can open it using Notepad and see what the
contents are. When you find the HOSTS file on an affected machine, feel free
to posts a copy of its contents to this thread.
