Default Reinstalling 98SE from upgrade CD?

I have a PC that I would like to wipe out the hard drive
and rebuild. It was originally a Win95 machine that I
upgraded to Win 98SE. Are there any tricks/pitfalls to
reinstalling the Win 98SE operating system direct from the
upgrade CD and bypassing the Win 95 CD? I plan to FORMAT
the hard drive so nothing of the existing sytem will
persist. Any help/comments/web links will be apperciated.

Thanks,
Ken

IIRC.. you can proceed to install using the Win98SE upgrade CD.
It should ask for evidence that you have a previous version, you
then insert the Win 95 CD in the drive, let it confirm this, then switch
back the CDs so that the Win 98SE upgrade disc is once again in
the drive.

Perhaps some one can confirm this? It has been a loong time since
I have done this and my photographic memory has been exposed to
light.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you still have the 95 CD for confirmation of a
previous OS to insert when asked. Also make sure you have the Product Key, NOT the
Product ID before formatting or you will have a new bird to kill.
If you need the product key and have not formatted your drive, MVP George Gedye has
an app that will pull it from the registry for you.
http://www.mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/

Click on Software, click on Applications, scroll down to RegInfo ver3.

Your ProductID and Product Key can be found in the registry. Go to Start Run, type
in: regedit and hit enter. Navigate to:
Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
Click once on CurrentVersion, the name not the +, and scroll to ProductID or
ProductKey in the right pane.
