OE6 on ME problems
When I try to down load email I get an error message that says msimn has
caused an error in directdb.dll. Outlook will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computor. If I try to reopen outlook, I cant get to any folders and a window opens that says there is a problem with my pop3 server. Sometimes it will take several minutes for the first message to come up and other times it does so right away. Also, I cant delete emails very often. When I can get outlook to open it may or may not let me delete emails. I may have 80 or so in my inbox to delete before I can. Then I have to do it as fast as possible because it may shut me off before I am done. Once they are in deleted items I can dump them anytime. |

DIRECTDB.DLL error
One possible reason for this error is if the all important file folders.dbx has become damaged. To fix it, try first to compact your folders whilst offline. Do this by selecting and clicking File | Folder | Compact All Folders. If this doesn't resolve the problem then close OE and rename (or delete) the file folders.dbx in your Identity's store folder. You can establish the location of the store by selecting Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Location. When OE restarts it will rebuild a new clean copy of folders.dbx. Note though that folders.dbx is the master index for the message store and stores not only the layout of your folders in the folder list but also, for example, the details of the messages that have been read in the newsgroups and also the list of available newsgroups. This information will be lost when you delete folders.dbx meaning that for example your folders list will have all folders as being top level folders and you will have to rebuild any folder tree you might have, likewise details of read messages will have been lost, the list of available newsgroups and your synchronisation settings. For more details see MS KB 233264 - "OLEXP: Error Message If the Folders.dbx File Is Missing or Damaged" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=233264). Problem with your Inbox. This can be due to a damaged Inbox file or perhaps, given your other problems, a damaged folder.dbx file. 1) Try and empty the Inbox or move the contents to another folder.. 2) Shutdown Outlook Express 3) Locate and delete the file Inbox.dbx which by default will be in a folder with a name similar to C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{xxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express where {xxx} is specific to your PC and the identity that is having problems. 4) Restart Outlook Express, this will automatically recreate the file Inbox.dbx. 5) Can you now delete messages from the Inbox? Please post back and let us know how you get on. -- Mike Maltby Dustcloud wrote: When I try to down load email I get an error message that says msimn has caused an error in directdb.dll. OE6 on ME problems
Thank you. I compacted the folders first and that let me delete emails , but
I still couldnt download any more. I then created a new folder in outlook and moved the ones I wanted to save to it. I tried searching for C:\windows\application...... folder and the computor said it was an invalid folder. So I searched for folder.dbx and deleted it. So far everything is working fine. Thanks, again. "Mike M" wrote: DIRECTDB.DLL error One possible reason for this error is if the all important file folders.dbx has become damaged. I'm pleased to read that you appear to have solved your problem. Well
done. -- Mike Maltby Dustcloud wrote: Thank you. I compacted the folders first and that let me delete emails , but I still couldnt download any more.
