operating system not found(me)

computer wont boot up and tells me that the operating
system cannot be found. when i put the restore disk in ,it
asksme to boot in dos, or restore ME. when i tell it to
restore ME it tells me i will lose all my info on hard
drive. is there any other way to reinstall ME without
losing hard drive info? please help!!

What did you do that caused the problem in the first place? Knowing that
might help someone in giving you an answer.

without more details on what you were doing prior to the problem appearing,
any advice we can give could cause more problems than you already have.

As a first step, boot to DOS using a floppy disk, and type the following
command

FDISK /STATUS

make a note of the response, and post back

i too just had to reboot wind. me and "no" there is no way
to reboot your operating system without losing all your
info. your best bet is to save all you need and then
reboot.

Most people reboot several times a day - with no effect!
'Rebooting' is simply forcing the machine to restart

What you are talking about is reloading the operating system - and yes there
are ways to do that without losing your data.

Do an over-the-top install from the HD - look here for detailed
instructions.

i too just had to reboot wind. me and "no" there is no way
to reboot your operating system without losing all your
info. your best bet is to save all you need and then
reboot.
