Default Notepad Is Lost

Somehow I lost Notepad. I have looked in my recycle bin and it is not
in there. I have all the CDs and disks that came with the computer
when it was new. I assume that Notepad is on them somewhere. Is there
an easy way to Restore this product?
Thanks for any and all help.

First do...Start/Settings/folderoptions/View. Select show
all files and uncheck hide file extensions. Now...
Start/Find/Files&Folders.
In the "Named" window type notepad.exe.
In "Look in" window select My Computer.
Run the search.
Does anything show?
Notepad.exe should show with a little green notepad icon.
If it shows with the white screen with blue
border,app/run, icon? Delete it. This is malware. It has
taken over your notepad.exe.
Through the System File Checker,SFC, you can select to
extract a single file. Type in "Notepad.exe" without the
quotes. Extract from...Cd-rom drive letter,Win98 CD, Win98.
In other words insert the Win98 Cd into the Cdrom. Then
run SFC and the extract the file from the CD. Would be in
the "Win98" folder of the CD.

It belongs in "C:\Windows". Chances are good, SFC would know that,
though...

(1) "START, Run, SFC"
(2) Bolt "Extract one file from installation disk"
(3) Enter "Notepad.exe" in the "Specify..." box.
(4) Click "Start".
(5) It should offer to "Save file in C:\WINDOWS".
If not, make it so.
(6) In "Restore from", if not already pre-filled, browse to
(a) Installation CD (likely the Win98 folder) or
(b) The folder that has your cabs on the hard drive, likely
"C:\WINDOWS\options\cabs\".
(7) Click "OK"

If it discovers the file already exists, it will offer to back it up.
May as well do so. If it discovers the file is "in use", it will request
that you reboot to complete the install.

Last time I did it, SFC put it where it belongs by itself.
And for saving whatever is there before? I would select
not to save it incase there is something attached to it
that was causing the problem in the first place.

Very well. But I would likely hold it a bit in a safe place. OK, then.
