Cannot access any programs (system locks down)

May have picked up a bug. Cannot access any progams
without system locking up. Able to run Hijack This,
Spybot, CWShredder. No help. Cannot run antivirus. Cannot
access internet. Can get into Safe Mode. Need help!

Can you boot into Safe Mode?
Do programs run there?

To boot to Safe Mode:
-Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu
(boot menu) appears.
-Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.

Yes, can get into safe mode. Using work pc to get info to
try when I get home.

If you look at earlier post "pc virus infected" on June 8,
my pc is doing almost the same thing.

If you can run programs in Safe Mode on the problem machine, you can download Hijack
This onto a floppy using a good machine, then copy it to a folder on the hard drive
of the problem machine, and run it in Safe Mode.

Post back with the log file, and also post it to one of the forums listed below.

My standard post about using Hijack This:

Download, unzip, and run Hijack This from one of these locations:

Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick
HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Press that, save the log somewhere you can find it (Desktop, My Documents, or
similar).
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.

Copy the log files and paste them into a new post at one of these forums:
