Image Preview
In Windows ME, Image Preview works within folders when I
highlight an image file then click on the Image Preview button, but when I double-click on the file, the image opens in Photo Editor and a message says Windows could not find the file. I have image files associated with Image Preview in the File Types, although they don't have the Image Preview icon. The only choices in File Types are Change and Restore. How can I make them open in Image Preview instead of Photo Editor? |

Hi,
Try clicking the Restore button to go back to the default settings. If that doesn't fix things, this article may help: [272969] Description of the Image Preview Feature in Windows ME http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;272969 Don [MS MVP IE/OE] "Henry" anonymous[at]discussions.microsoft.com wrote in message ... If you mean System Restore, that won't help because I
formatted my HD and reinstalled Windows. The problem started immediately. That article says delete the registry key with a dll file. There are several entries within the folder. Do I delete the entire folder? Thanks for trying to help. -----Original Message----- Hi, Try clicking the Restore button to go back to the default settings. Hi,
You mentioned a Restore choice in File Types. I would give that a try. The article http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;272969 says to delete the entire registry key at [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\SHIMGVW.DLL] That will also, of course, delete the subkeys within it. I would export that key before deleting it, or create a System Restore point, so that the edit can be undone. Or, one of the REG files from http://www.aumha.org/regfiles.php#thumb should restore the defaults for images. Don -- [MS MVP IE/OE] anonymous wrote in message ... I followed the instructions in the article. Then when I
double-clicked on a jpg it opened in Photo Editor, but at least the message about Windows not finding it was gone. Then I right-clicked on a jpg, chose "Properties", clicked on the "Change" button, selected Image Preview and now it's working. Thanks. -----Original Message----- Hi, You mentioned a Restore choice in File Types. I would give that a try.
