I want to record a .wav file to attach to emails........
I've gone to ' start/proggie/access/etc etc....anyhow, i got the
recorder thing happening and i've sent myself some mails but it
aint showing up (btw, when recording i do save the file as a wav and when i
send mail i go find the wav and do the right thing).

Please keep your related questions in the same thread. This will help =
others see what it is you request, what has been suggested and avoid =
duplicated responses.

Your first thread appears to be that you want to get a notification =
when you receive an new email, that's what I will address here. The =
sound you use does not get attached to emails in order to get a =
notification, it is used by the system and executed when a new mail =
arrives.

I'm not sure if it works thru a PC speaker. I've had no success getting =
sounds without using external speakers with the only exception being PC =
Beeps.

Anyhoo:
Click Start Settings Control Panel Sounds.
In the Events windows:
Scroll down to "New Mail Notification".
Click on it once.

Under Sound:
Browse to your .wav file and select it.
You should now have a speaker in the Preview window, click the Play =
button (Arrow next to Preview window)

If you do not hear the sound and your sound is enabled-not muted, then =
you will need external speakers to hear the sound.

If you do hear the sound and you do not hear it when new mail arrives:
Open OE.
On the Menu bar click Tools Options.

Under the General tab Send/Receive messages:
Place a check next to "Play Sound when new messages arrive."
Click Apply Ok.

Send yourself a message to test if the sound works.

Thanks Brian but thats not where the prob lies.
I already know how to go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, sound
recorder...........
its using the ' sound recorder ' that is getting to me.
even thats not the problem really . lets say i'm sitting here and i fire up
the recorder (you get 60secs worth of recording) then strum the guitar til
the recorder stops; i then click on file/save as and save it as gh.wav and
stash it somewhere obvious. I then go to mail room and send a mail utilising
outlooks format, background, sounds and grab the Wav file to be used with the
email.
So, everythings fine so far, except when i send the mail the guitar playing
is not going along with it, or so it seems.
I think the problem is in having a device driver installed Or, i dont have
an external microphone on this PC. or it could be both.

I would guess that the problem is that you don't have a microphone. When you
double-click on the WAV file, does the sound play?

Are the others ones you created? My suspicion is they came with the OS =
or another app.

You will not find a built-in mic on the machine, if there were to be =
one it would be on the monitor, HP's put theirs top center.=20
Most sound cards have a mic connection and that is where you will have =
to plug in a purchased mic. Check the back of your machine for mic =
connection.

Local stores such as Best Buy or CompUSA will carry them. You have a =
choice of purchasing either a Headset w/mic or a mic alone. I personally =
wouldn't bother with a headset.
