are there any extras in 98se Cd

to get the tweak ui and PWS for windows 98 i had to download them. the
reason for this is because my CD doesn't have folders in it. the entire
disk is mainly cab files (i think its because its OEM)
now am I able to get the extras like PersonalWebServer from any of these
cabinet files?

I don't have the 98 machine on right now but have a look in Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs Windows Setup tab and I think Networking. If not check others
by double clicking on them to what is available. If you find it, place a check next
to it, Apply Ok out. You may be asked for the disk. If the setup files are on the
drive, usually found in c:\windows\options\cabs, you can point to that directory when
asked.

AFAIK, only the retail versions of Windows 98 and 98SE have the extras.
You'll recognize such a CD because there is a folder called WIN98 that has
all the actual setup CABs inside it, plus four of five other folders on the
root. It will also *say* Microsoft Windows 98 or 98SE on the CD (if it says
"For installation on new hardware only" or something to that effect, it's a
generic or retail OEM, and I'm pretty sure it's no different from the plain
retail Full and Upgrade versions, except you can't use it to Upgrade.)

If what you have does not fit the above model, then you have a proprietary
installation CD, usually called Restore or Recovery CD, and no, those
usually do *not* include all the extras. Not on the CD, not in the CABS
folder.

The Cd that I have was extracted from my pc's hdd a while back and i burned
it to cd for backup purposes, that computer is trashed now and therefor i
use the cd to install windows 98se on this ol' NEC. I assumed it was OEM
because the files where taken from the folder c:/Win98 of that computer but
other then that there where absolutely no subfolders. I guess im just
gonna have to do things the Download way. Well thanks for your time Gary.

The PersonalWebServer is in one of those folders.
