Copy,paste, drag, drop
Hi
Can some one please help me solve a problem with my daughter's PC which is running Windows ME? The problem, very simply stated, is that the copy and paste functions DO NOT WORK. The drag and drop DOESN'T WORK either. Other functions seem to work correctly. She needs to move some files and nothing I've done seems to get the feature to work. When I try it, I get a simple little "ding" which is probably the sound she has associated with a windows error. Any thoughts about what I might try? Is it a case of re-installing ME? A response to this email or a posting to this newsgroup is sufficient, but if you want to speak with me, please email me your phone number and I will call you. Sincere regards, Otto Dietrich |

I don't have an answer but would like a little further clarification first,
please :- The problem, very simply stated, is that the copy and paste functions DO NOT WORK. Does this also apply if you copy and paste an item of text within an application such as Notepad or does it only apply when you are trying to copy/move files (or folders) using Windows Explorer? Just trying to determine whether the clipboard is working 8^¬ (Thinking!) Also, are you using the Copy/Paste etc. commands from the Edit menu function or the right-click function of your mouse? At what point - copy or paste - do you hear the 'ding' ? Where are you trying to paste the files? Mart "Otto Dietrich" wrote in message . .. Hi Mart
Thanks for responding. Good questions--some I can answer right now and others will have to wait until I can get access to the PC. I have NOT tried either function (copy/paste or drag/drop) within an application. That's a good question and I will as soon as I can. I have only tried the right click of the mouse, so I will also try the Edit Menu functions when I can. The "ding" occurs after I tell it to paste. I all cases, where I am trying to paste the files is a folder--either an existing one or a new one that I create. Again, thanks for the interest and I will post the other answers as soon as I know them. Regards, Otto "Mart" wrote in message ... OK Otto, in the meantime it might be worth considering the following KB
article which may well apply to the symptoms that you've described. "Cannot Drag or Copy and Paste File" http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;309662 HTH and good luck Mart "Otto Dietrich" wrote in message t... Hi Mart Thanks for responding. Hi Mart
Viola (I think that's how it is spelled) !!! We did repair Internet Explorer and that did the trick! Who would have thought that it would be an I.E. problem? Anyway, thanks ever so much for all the help. By the way, I did try searching Microsoft support, but was unable to find the article that you did. It was right on. Once again, you saved the day! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Otto "Mart" wrote in message ... Otto, although this particular problem is not one I've personally come
across before, there are one or two other well documented fixes which a 'repair' of IE fixes other Windows Explorer issues g However, I'm pleased to hear that it worked for you and appreciate your feedback. BTW - The string I used in the search field(s) on the (new improved?) Knowledge Base http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx? was "copy and paste" (no quotes) and then using advanced search, Search Product 'Windows Me' and Using 'The exact phrase entered'. Then, to use your expression - Voila - 1st in a list of 13 Mart "Otto Dietrich" wrote in message t... Hi Mart Viola (I think that's how it is spelled) !!!
