Default Folder Windows - Can This Be Done?

Hello,

I have a number of folder shortcuts on an active desktop. I wish them to
always open in a window of a preferred size. This would be a larger/deeper
window than the 'default one which appears to be 'classically small'.

I have tried maximising them. I have used "Shift" on closing the maximised
window. To no avail. I have dragged them to an appropriate size.

I have just done a format and re-install of WinMe and this, once again, is
the result of so doing. Prior to it, and by what means I do not recall, I
was able to to have them opening as wished for - just for the session -
which was OK by me.

Guidance much appreciated.

Thanks.

Ben.

Hello Mike,

I found out, by trial and error, that the word 'View' refers to the way the
contents of the folder are displayed and not the size of the window.

I have tried every conceivable drag - sides and top/bottom, holding-and-not
the Cltrl key down. Is there a chance that a registry key is implicated in
this memory? I have set negatives as the value for NoSaveSettings which
gives me control over my quick- launch icon ordering and have done so for 6
months now so I don't think it implicated because prior to the F and I (a
couple of days ago) I was able to make them (the folder windows) any size I
wished for. But a F and I will put my registry back to its original state
and so I can't help but wonder.

Trust all goes well with you, Mike - and thanks as always.

Ben.

Hello Mike,

I restored my registry to the last but one date - no change. I restored
back. I then checked that NoSaveSettings value and lo and behold the value
was showing a reversion to 01 00 00 00. I changed it to 00 00 00 00 and I
have my way with the folder windows.

Something, how I wish I knew what, had changed the value. I remember I did
an I.E. 6 repair yesterday (I think yesterday - I have been up following the
last Test Match and my mind is less than competent - I'm in Canada) which
may have been the problem. What do you think?

Cheers, Mike.

Ben.

| Ben,
|
| There is or was no need to make any registry change for the order of items
| in Quick Launch to remain as set by the user however the change you
| mention will have had no effect on the size of any Windows folder.
| However the fact that you made this change suggests you might have

No problem Ben,

I also in part misread your initial post and thought that you had in fact
altered a different registry value. I'm pleased though to now read you've
managed to fix your problems with retaining window sizes.
